Treatment of Married Couples in Address Management

Scope of Functions

The treatment of married couples in loan correspondence has been made more flexible. If the spouse is also a borrower, you can now send one letter or dunning letter to the couple.

In previous releases, this was only possible if the couple was entered as the main borrower. This caused problems in cases where the husband and wife have different names (Mr Smith, Mrs Jones), and made it difficult to identify the type of partner (is the married couple a legal or natural person?).

If the main borrower belongs to a married couple, you can now define a link to the other partner using the relationship function (relationship category 0021 or 0022).

When the system determines the recipient's address for the original letter, it checks if there is a spouse who is also a borrower. If such a partner is found, the name part of the address is changed to include both partners. The system uses the main loan partner's address and creates a copy of the letter for the spouse who is the other borrower.

Address for married couples with the same last name:

Louise and John Smith
Main Street 12
Philadelphia, PA 19000

The corresponding salutation is: "Dear Mr and Mrs Smith".

Address for married couples with different last names:

Louise Jones
John Smith
Main Street 12
Philadelphia, PA 19000

The corresponding salutation is "Dear Mrs Jones, Dear Mr Smith".

Effects on Customizing

To generate correspondence for married couples in this way, choose Assign Documents to Correspondence Activities and Roles in Customizing for Loans and activate the Expand partner indicator under Properties.

The new function is always applied to dunning letters, regardless of the Customizing settings.

Further notes

If a married couple has already been entered as the main borrower (with a salutation such as "Dear Mr and Mrs"), you can make use of the new function by changing the coding (not a modification). (For more information, see the comment in RFVDTX01, form routine ERMITTELN_ANSCHRIFT_OR). Using relationships, you link the married couple to both the husband and the wife.
