Short text

SAPoffice: Creating any PC documents

Description

You can create and edit any PC documents from SAPoffice. This means you are no longer dependent on the document classes that appear as possible entries in the field Class: You can enter any file extension which is valid on your PC.

Example

You want to create a document in the notepad and send it.

  1. Select Document -> Create and enter txt for the class.
    The notepad editor appears.
  2. Enter your document, save it, and close the notepad editor (important!).
    The document is created.
  3. You can now send it in the normal way.

Software/hardware requirements

You can only create and edit PC documents if you are working on a PC which has the required PC application. The system considers the application to be there if there is a valid entry for it in the PC register.

Effects on System Administration

The file extension is displayed in the user interface as the PC document class.
All documents are stored in the database with the class EXT.
Three points are therefore important for the SAPoffice system administration:

  • Reorganization
If you want to reorganize PC documents, start the reorganization program RSSORE00 with one of the variants SAP_EXT*. The variants SAP_EXT* cover all PC documents. You do not need separate variants for PC documents.
  • Your own function modules SO_XXX where XXX = document class for PC document classes (TOMs)
These are no longer required. You can edit all PC document classes without making any extensions to the standard version. However, if you would like to write your own TOM, for example because you want a PC document class to be processed in a particular way which is not provided in the SAP standard version, you can still do this.
  • Conversion of existing PC documents
This point is only relevant if you have been working with SAPoffice before Release 3.0.
The conversion is carried out with program RSSOCVPC. The program function is described in detail in the program documentation. You can allow yourself a few days before you start the program, since the system knows whether you have already carried out a conversion or not. The documents are handled accordingly. However, you should convert them as soon as possible since documents are being created while you wait, and an increasing number of documents increases the runtime of the program.
    Before you start program RSSOCVPC:
Check table TSOTD. The old PC document classes which are to be converted must no longer be contained in the table. The new document class EXT must remain in the table.
If you decide not to carry out the conversion immediately:
Check table TSOTD. Leave the new document class EXT in the table.
Make sure the table contains the old PC document classes for which there are documents in your system. Before conversion, refer to the paragraph above: 'Before you start program RSSOCVPC'.
