SAP E-Book

In this IMG activity, you define the number ranges for the documents. You have to create a number rage for each accounting system/legal entity combination. In this way, each combination receives its own subobject for number range object document.

For each number range, specify the following:

  • the number range interval from which the document numbers are to be selected
  • the type of number range assignment
  • External number assignment

External number range assignment is carried out by the user or an external system. It makes sense to use this, for example, if the documents are transferred from a feeder system. The prerequisite for this is that the numbers have to be unique. With external number assignment, tbe current number level is not displayed. If a document number is entered manually, it is therefore necessary to ensure seamless number assignment.
  • Internal number assignment

Internal number assignment is carried out automatically by the SAP system. It makes sense to use this, for example, if the original documents do not have a unique document number.

Year-Dependent Number Ranges

You can define year-dependent number ranges. This allows you to use the same range more than once under the same number for various fiscal years. You always specify the to fiscal year, that is, the fiscal year up to which the number range is valid.

If you want to define a number range independent of the fiscal year, enter 9999 in the Year field.

To create a number range for documents, proceed as follows:

  1. Enter the Accounting System and the Legal Entity and choose Change.
The system automatically creates a subobject for your accounting system/legal entity combination for the number range object Document .
  1. Choose Insert Interval.
  2. Enter a number for the number range interval.
  3. In the Year field, enter either a to-year (for a year-dependent number range) or 9999 (for a year-independent number range).
  4. In the From-Number and To-Number fields, enter the required interval.
  5. In the External field, choose the required number range assignment type.
  6. Choose Insert and save your number range interval.

Notes on Transport

To transport a number range interval, choose Interval -> Transport.

When carrying out the transport, note the following points:

  • In the target system, all intervals belonging to the chosen number range interval will be deleted. This ensures that, following the import, the target system contains only the exported ranges. The current number levels are imported with the value that you have at the time of the export.
  • Independent tables are not transported or converted.
