In this Customizing activity you define the sequence of the release steps. You also determine which users involved in the process may execute the release steps. Provided the final release step has not been set, the release steps can also be performed in reverse order.

Depending on the release procedure, define the release sequence from the current to the next release step. The user who wishes to perform this transition must not have set a release step in the interval User from to User to. A zero in both user fields means that every user may perform the transition. Note that (starting from your release sequence) the value in the field User to must be greater than or equal to the value in the field User from. Else the system terminates when the release procedure is used.

  1. The release procedure "4A" is a dual control principle in which two different users are to authorize the releases. This is why a 10 is to be entered for User to for the transition from release step 10 to 20. Thus, the user who set release step 10 is not allowed to perform the transition from 10 to 20.
  2. The release procedure "4M" is a dual control principle in which the first status is set by a technical user and two different human users are to authorize the further releases. A 10 is to be entered for User to for the transition from release step 10 to 20. Thus, the technical user who set release step 10 is not allowed to perform the transition from 10 to 20. The transition from status 20 to 30 may not be performed by either the technical user or the human user who set status 20.
