In this IMG activity, you define profiles for consumable rebates. You have to define a profile if you want to use the program type consumable rebates. Customers participating in consumable rebate programs are entitled to return specific products depending on their sales volume accumulated over a specific time period.

Amongst other things, in the profile you design the sequence of the earning-, waiting- and consumption periods in consumable rebate processing. To do this, you assign durations to these periods. The rebate application uses these durations and the validity start- and end dates of the rebate agreement item or, alternatively, the validity start and end dates of the conditions, to calculate when rebates can be earned and when they can be consumed.

Depending on the lengths of the validity periods, there could be several sequences of earning, waiting, and consuming for one rebate agreement.

You have activated the processing of consumable rebates in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Rebate Processing -> Configure Application.

You have marked the item categories that you want to use for the processing of consumable rebates as rebate-relevant in the Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Entitlement Management -> Integration-> Assign Relevance of Returns Entitlements to Compl. and Returns.

Note: For detailed information about the various fields and necessary settings, see the field help.

  1. Enter a technical name and a description for the consumable rebate profile.
  2. Earning Period Duration
Enter the duration of a period in which rebates can be earned.
  1. Waiting Period Until Next Earning Period
Enter the duration of the time between the end of the preceding earning period and the start of the next earning period.
  1. Consumption Period Duration
Enter the duration of a period in which rebates can be consumed.
  1. Waiting Period Until Consumption Period Starts
Enter the duration of the time between the start of the earning period and the start of the corresponding consumption period.
  1. Filter for Consumption Value
Enter a filter value if you want to use a custom implementation of Business Add-In (BAdI) Calculation of Consumable Rebate Valuein order to influence the calculation of the consumable value.
For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Rebate Processing -> System Enhancements -> Business Add-Ins -> BAdI: Calculation of Consumable Rebate Value.
  1. Requirement Set ID
Enter a requirement set ID if you have defined a specific requirement set for consumable rebates in order to exclude the item categories that can be billed within a return scenario from rebate processing. Unless you are using a specific requirement set, you have to exclude the item categories of return transactions via the requirement set for the general rebate relevance.
  1. Check Period Sequence
Set this indicator if you want to ensure that no consumable rebates will be accumulated during the last earning period of a sequence unless it is followed by another consumption period.
  1. Sequences on Condition Level
Set this indicator if the sequence of periods for consumable rebates with this profile should be calculated on condition level with the validity start of the single condition as starting point for the period calculations.
  1. No Settlement in Consumption Period
If you select this checkbox, it is not possible to settle or transfer earned consumable rebates, nor to set the balance to zero as long as the corresponding consumption period has not ended.
  1. Assign the consumable rebate profile to a rebate profile.
You do this in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Rebate Processing -> Rebate Profiles -> Define Rebate Profile.

Note

If you want to display the rebate conditions in the sales order or the invoice or if you want to use the direct rebate function when processing consumable rebates, you have to assign calculation formula 12001 to the rebate condition type in the pricing procedure. You do this in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Basic Functions -> Pricing-> Define Settings for Pricing -> Create Pricing Procedure.

For performance reasons, this setting is only to be made for the corresponding condition types.

In this example, the following validity dates apply:

  • Agreement Validity: 02/01/2006 - 11/30/2007
  • Condition Validity: 03/15/2006 - 11/30/2007

Settings in consumable rebate profile:

  • Earning Period Duration:3 Months (The cumulation type of the assigned cumulation profile is monthly)
  • Waiting Period Until Next Earning Period: 2 Months (The cumulation type of the assigned cumulation profile is monthly)
  • Consumption Period Duration: 2 Months
  • Waiting Period Until Consumption Period Starts: 3 Months
  • Check Period Sequence:Set the indicator
  • Sequences on Condition Level: Set the indicator

Result:

  • The first earning period starts on March 15th, 2006.
By setting the indicator Sequences on Condition Level, you have chosen the calculation of the earning-, waiting- and consumption periods on condition level. Therefore, the first earning period starts on the validity start date of the condition.
  • The first earning period ends on May 31st.
You have chosen an earning period length of three months. Because the system calculates on a calendar month basis, March is counted as a full month.
  • The first consumption period starts on June 1st.
You have entered three months for the waiting period until the corresponding consumption period starts, which is counted from the beginning of the preceding earning period. Again March is counted as a full month.
  • The first consumption period ends on July 31st.
You have chosen a consumption period length of two months.
  • The second earning period starts on August 1st.
You have entered two months for the waiting period between two earnings, which is considered to be the time span between the end of the preceding earning period and the start of the next earning period. Because the first earning period ended on May 31st, the next earning period starts exactly two calendar months later on August 1st.
  • The second earning period again lasts three months and ends on October 31st.
  • The second consumption period starts on November 1st.
You have entered three months for the waiting period until the corresponding consumption period starts, which is counted from the beginning of the preceding earning period (August 1st).
  • The following sequences of earning, waiting and consuming are calculated accordingly.
  • The sequences end with the end of the last consumption phase on October 31st, 2007. Because the validity of the condition ends on November 11th, 2007, normally, the last consumption period would have been followed by a one month period of earning. However, you have set the indicator Check Period Sequence which causes the system to prevent an earning period unless it is followed by another consumption period. Therefore, no earning is possible during November.
