This manual illustrates the business-related functions of the System AM (Asset Management). Asset Management consists of several components. The components "Asset Accounting" and "Investment Control" are already fully realized. Further components are in development.

This manual describes the ways in which the System can be configured, and demonstrates how the AM System can be modified to reflect your needs. The Implementation Guide (IMG) describes the actual process of setting up the System. There is no written documentation for using System once it has been set up, since all possible entries are documented directly online according to the actual configuration of the System.

This manual was created as so-called Hypertext. This means that the individual chapters (modules) are linked hierarchically by 'references', making it possible to read the manual in a relatively flexible manner.

In order to work with Hypertext, you should be aware of the following:

  • Marked words indicate Hypertext references (goto opportunities). The type of marking will vary according to the graphic capabilities of your System (for example, the text can be highlighted).
  • You can call up a reference by positioning the cursor on the term in question and pressing F2. You can also select the term by double-clicking on it with the mouse.
  • There is a reference at the end of each module for the chapter which is a step further in the hierarchy.
  • You can return to the chapter that you just read by pressing F3 (Back).
  • You can print the entire Hypertext manual or individual chapters. In the initial screen of the Hypertext manual via Menu -> "Hypertext" -> "Print".

This manual was created in Hypertext as part of a pilot project. The format of the printout therefore deviates a little from that of the printed documentation for the other SAP Systems.

The new form has the following advantages:

  • Online display of the manual is possible.
  • Online documentation is always at the most current system status.
  • While reading in online, you can branch from the text to glossary definitions.
  • You can branch from the display of a chapter in the IMG manual (Implementation Guide) and from the F1 field documentation, directly into the display of corresponding detailed, business-related explanations from this manual.
  • Soon you will also be able to call up the manual directly from error message texts.

You can access the entire online manual using the Asset Customizing menu via Environment -> Syst. Admin. Guide. If necessary, you can you can also print hard copies of the manual. However, the diagrams can only be printed on a printer that is capable of handling Postcript.
