You can operate the SAP Warehouse Management System (WMS) as a stand-alone decentralized system that is independent of a central SAP S/4HANA System.

This chapter contains the information you need to customize the WMS. The IMG is structured in a way that you can maintain the required parameters in the SAP S/4HANA system as well as in the decentralized WMS. In order to consider the individual characteristics of the different system environments, note the following:

You normally use a Customizing project to customize your system. If the SAP S/4HANA system and the decentralized WMS are both SAP systems, you must create a separate IMG project for each of these two systems. In the SAP S/4HANA system, you select the component ALR0000093 "Central processing", in the decentralized WMS you select the component ALR0000094 "Local Operations". To make the ALE-specific settings, you must additionally consider the component HLB0006330 "ALE Integration technology" for your Customizing project.

If you want to take advatange of the chance to post partial goods receipts for an inbound delivery in the decentralized WM system and confirm these to the SAP S/4HANA system, you have to serialize the relevant IDocs via object types. To do this, you first set the BUS2015 InboundDelivery object type as an object type relevant for serialization (transaction BD105). In a second step, you assign the SHP_IBDLV_CONFIRM_DECENTRAL message type to this object type (transaction BD104). Finally, you activate the serialized distribution in the source and target system, by setting the SFlag indicator for the BUS2015 object type in the IMG activities Activate Business Objects in Inbound Processing and Activate Business Objects in Outbound Processing.

In addition, you need application-specific components for Warehouse Management and Shipping, for example. In the WMS component, warehousing and shipping functions are only available in the decentralized WMS.
