SAP E-Book

In this Customizing activity, you can create, update or delete query views of queries. Query views are a representation of the query output on-screen, displayed in a table, graphical or other format.

You can use query views as output for the Overview tab page of Business Context Viewer (CA-EPT-BCV), as well as output for the view area. On the Overview tab page query views are displayed as thumbnails. In the view area you can see a more detailed view of query views and perform certain operations, such as filtering of the query output.

Furthermore, the query views can be assigned to the query view menu on the side panel and to dashboards.

You have set up search connectors and query definitions in Customizing activities Define Search Connectors and Define BCV Queries, or use the ones predefined by SAP.

Define the following:

  1. Create query view
Create a query view based on a query definition. The query view works as a header element for the defined output. Specify the default output format of the query for subsequent display. If the output format includes graphical output, you must specify the default chart name as well. You can create a dynamic text which uses meanings to display values. You can also set the query view as private, or deactivate personalization by choosing the appropriate checkboxes.
  1. Set up query view input fields
Query view input fields are responsible for the input parameter transfer needed to start and run a query. This is an optional step that you can omit if your query definition works without input fields. You can define the following settings:

  • The technical details of the input field are shown as read-only.

  • Input fields without meanings are often used as constants. Input fields that are assigned a meaning retrieve their input value dynamically during runtime. This means that you do not have to enter a value here, but if you do so, the inserted value overrides the dynamically retrieved one. Note that even if a value is blank, it has to be created in this step if the input field has a meaning assigned.

  • In the Data Value field, you must insert dates in the following format: YYYYMMDD.

  1. Define query view structure
The minimum output of a query view is a table. In this activity, you define the output structure for that table.
You can define the following settings:
  • The sorting, filtering or aggregation of the query output with respect to individual table columns or output fields

  • Mark certain fields as invisible to automatically exclude not relevant columns from consideration

  • Different table settings depending on whether the query output is displayed as a thumbnail on the Overview tab page of the side panel or in the view area

  1. Define a query display
You can define query view charts based on the available fields of query output. You must define the following values for every newly created query view:
  • Chart ID

  • Chart Name

  • Chart Description

  • Technology

Specifies the technology used to render a chart. Currently, only business graphics is supported.
  • Chart Type

Specifies the type of chart you want the system to display.
You can choose from the following chart types:
,,Bubble Chart
,,Column Chart
,,Gantt Chart
,,Line Chart
,,Split Pie Chart
,,Stacked Column Chart
Every chart subtype is characterized by a separate set of characteristics that you can provide in this step. These characteristics define the chart output, columns in the table that the system uses as sources for X- or Y-axes, possible aggregation over table entries, and so on.
  1. Define query view grouping assignments
You can organize the query views that you have created in a hierarchical structure by assigning them to groups according to your needs. You can use these tree structures to display query views in the side panel or in the list of possible drill-down elements.
