SAP E-Book

In this section, you define the process instruction categories for the SAP PI sheet using the process instruction assistant.

When you create a process instruction in the master recipe or process order, you must assign it to a process instruction category. Thus, the settings you make here serve as a reference for the process instruction. Except for the process instruction type, you can, however, change all settings in the process instruction.

Note
You can also make the corresponding settings for your process instruction categories directly in the characteristic overview. If you want to do so, see the notes in section Define PI Categories for SAP PI Sheet Using Characteristic Overview.

If you want to use characteristics in your process instructions that are not contained in the standard system, you must define these characteristics in the system; see Define Characteristics for Process Instructions.

If you want to define a process instruction category of type process data request or process data calculation formula, you must first create the corresponding message category; see Set Up Process Message Categories.

If you want to define a process message category of type dynamic function call, you must first create the function module to be called; see Define SAP Function Module.

The standard system contains several examples for process instruction categories for the SAP PI sheet.

  1. To create a new process instruction category, choose New entries and enter the key, description, and process instruction type.
Note that you cannot use process instruction type process data subscription for the PI sheet.
  1. Select the process instruction category.
  2. Choose PI assistant. Depending on the process instruction type, make the corresponding settings described in the following sections:

Note:
  • In some cases, you will only be able to make definite settings in the master recipe or process order (for example, the text for a control instruction or the value of a message characteristic). If you do not want to enter default values in Customizing in these cases, leave the relevant field in the process instruction category blank.

  1. Choose Additional functions and Proc. instr. instruction.
The system checks the process instruction and displays the information, warning, and error messages collected in the log.
  1. To display the messages in the log, select the log, and choose Goto -> Display messages.
  2. Correct errors.
  3. After you have made all settings, choose Copy.
If you have not corrected all errors, the log is displayed again. However, to call up the process instruction assistant again, you must first choose Continue to go back to the overview of process instruction categories.
  1. Save the process instruction category.

If you include your process instruction categories in a Customizing transport, the corresponding long texts are included in the transport request. However, the long texts cannot be included in a BC set. In order to transport a long text to another client or another system, you must include it manually in a workbench order (see Transport long texts from process instruction types).
