In this section you define the catalog types that you need to create a product catalog.

The catalog type determines:

  • Which type of product assignment (manual, automatic or both) is allowed
  • Which text determination procedure for catalog areas and product items may be used
  • Which structure of directories will be automatically suggested and created during the initial creation of documents for a catalog area or catalog item.

If you want to use product order numbers for XML export:

  • Select the product order number field
  • Determine the format of the product order number according to the data in global Customizing.
  • Specify the left and right seperator

You can further specify, whether the campaign ID is to be coded in the product order number or printed on the order card.

You can specify further settings for the product order number in global Customizing.

  • You have defined the text determination procedure for your catalog type in the Implementation Guide (IMG) under Customer Relationship Management -> Basic Functions -> Text Management-> Set Texts
  • You have created the corresponding directory templates for product catalog objects (catalog areas, catalog items, products) in the IMG activity in the Implementation Guide (IMG) under Customer Relationship Management → Master Data → Product Catalog → Define Templates for Folders.
Caution
Maintain the property Document type when you create a directory. Pay attention to which document types are to be used in the E-Commerce application (in the templates). These are CRM_IMAGE and CRM_THUMB as standard. Pay attention to upper and lowercase sensitivity.

Logic of the Templates for Folders in Product Catalogs:

  1. If you want to assign documents to a catalog area or a catalog item for the first time (that is neither directories nor documents are assigned to the object) in catalog processing, a copy of the particular template is automatically assigned to the object. If you want to create or import documents within a folder, the document type of the directory is automatically passed on to the documents. This means that you do not have to maintain it yourself.
  2. The system determines which document types are to be used for catalog areas and catalog items during replication and XML export.
It uses the templates for folders that are entered here (that is on the basis of the document type property of the directory it contains). Documents with other document types or documents that do not contain document types are neither replicated nor exported.
  1. There is no catalog type specific setting for the selection of document types for products. The system picks up the central folder for templates, for products (to be more precise: for products from the material category), for all catalog types. See the IMG of Customer Relationship Management under Master Data → Product→ Product Category Settings → Create Content Management Directory.

Note

Changes to the folder for templates itself, or the replacement of a template with another do not affect business objects, that already have directories or documents assigned to them. That is no comparison of the structure (and with that of the document types) is implemented with the changed template in catalog processing. In such a case there is the danger that the indices of replicated catalogs will no longer structurally correspond to Customizing, this cannot be corrected with an update replication.
