You can determine whether the system can search for service contracts and how to assign an existing service contract when you create a business transaction, such as a service order.

You can use this Customizing activity to define whether the system can search for service contracts and how to assign an existing service contract when you create a business transaction, such as a service order. The following settings are available:

  • (Space): No Contract Determination
The system does not search for service contracts when you create a service transaction, such as a service order, and no service contract can be assigned to this service transaction.
  • I: Only at Item Level If External System Does Not Determine
When you create a service transaction item from the API (SOAP or OData)
  • If a valid service contract item is specified in the API, the contract item will be assigned to this service transaction item;

  • If an invalid service contract item is specified in the API, the system returns an error message and this service contract item is not assigned;

  • If no service contract item is specified in the API, the system searches for existing service contracts. If only one contract item is found and fulfills the selection criteria, the system automatically assigns the contract item and copies all the relevant data from this service contract item to the service transaction item. If multiple service contract items are found, the system returns an error message and no contract item is assigned.

When you create a service transaction item from the user interface (UI), the system searches for existing service contracts. If only one service contract item is found and fulfills the selection criteria, the system automatically assigns the contract item and copies all the relevant data from this service contract item to the service transaction item. If multiple service contract items are found, the system displays a list of these contract items, from which you can choose one you want to use. The system only proposes a service contract item that is valid on the requested start date (service orders).
