In this Customizing activity, you define file export variants and high-volume file export variants for file export in campaign execution.

  • File export variants determine the format of the file, the format parameters, and whether the file is assigned to the campaign or not. By default, XML and CSV formats are supported.
  • High-volume variants determine the location on the application server of the resulting export, the extension of the address data files, the format of the file, the format parameters, and the size of contact addresses for the address data file.

You assign your file export variants and high-volume file export variants to a communication medium in the activity Define Communication Medium.

File Export Variants

  1. Enter an ID and a description for your export variant. You also define the following:
  • A format and a file extension

  • Whether the file is assigned to the campaign during the export

  1. Select the new export variant and choose the Settings folder.
  2. Select the format parameters for your file format and enter the values for these parameters.
The following list demonstrates the possible entry values for the format parameters. Unless you make an entry in the Parameter Valuefield, the default value is used:
  • XML

ENCODING: XML document character set. This entry is used in the encoding attribute of the XML tag and does not have to be maintained in this context since UTF-8 is always used by default and possible entries are ignored. The character representation of the output file is always UTF-8.
ITEM: Name of the data record element. The data record element is at a higher level than the elements for the fields of a data record (default value: ITEM).
ROOT: Name of the root element. The root element is the highest element (default value: DATA).
VERSION: XML version (default value: 1.0).
  • CSV

ESCAPE: Escape character that is used when a special character occurs in a field (for instance, a separator). Character strings are not supported (default value: ").
HEADER_ROW: Indicator that determines whether a header line containing the field names is inserted at the start of the file. Possible entries are blank or X (default value: blank).
SEPARATOR: Character to be used to separate fields. Character strings are not supported (default value: ;).
  1. Save your entries.

High-Volume Variants

  1. Enter an ID and a description for your high-volume file export variant. You also define the following:
  • An extension for the address data file (for example, .csv)

  • A logical path as the location for the output of an execution

  • The size of contact addresses for an address data file

Note that this is the maximum value. According to business rules, the actual amount of address data in a file could be smaller due to restrictions such as the do-not-contact indicator or data consistency.
  1. Select the new export variant and choose the Settings folder.
  2. Make settings for your high-volume file export variant. You can make the following settings:
  • ESCAPE: Escape sign for the address data file

  • SEPARATOR: Separator sign for the address data file
