You configure the financing template of a financing option in the financing product master. In this financing template, you enter a date rule to determine the scheduling of a transaction for flow categories.

If the option involved can be valuated and should have a payment schedule in the original contract as well, you use date rules that refer to the corresponding date types of the option item.

When the option is exercised, it represents the main financing item, for which the previous date types may not be retained.

The old date rule can thus be replaced with a new date rule. The system replaces the rule automatically when the option is exercised.

The required settings depend on the Customizing for date management, as well as on the date rules used in your financing templates.

When configuring your financing templates, be sure to note the general difference between financing options that can be valuated and those that cannot. Option items that cannot be valuated have an item category that flags the item as not relevant for pricing. Therefore, the unexercised item in the financing contract does not have a pricing document, nor a billing plan. As a result, you should use the date rules that are generally used for financing products for the options in the financing template.

You configure an option as "cannot be valuated" in the financing product master, by assigning an appropriate item category group.

SAP provides assignments of this type for the standard scenarios. You generally do not have to change these default settings. Create new assignments for the date rules you use if you also want to use them in financing options.

Assign the date rule that you want to apply to the financing item after the option has been exercised to the date rule you use in the financing template for an option item that can be valuated.

You use date rule LEAS012 "Billing start+lease term" in the financing template of an extension option to define the time distribution of the residual value. When the option is exercised, the residual value will apply at EOL. Therefore, you assign new date role CONT007 "End of lease" to date rule LEAS012. This prevents having to replicate the existing dates and terms in the option item, such as the lease term, to the financing item. Otherwise, changes to dates and times in the financing item would not be considered in the payment schedule.
