In this Customizing activity, you define date calculation procedures for use in, for example, determining the period between a member earning a loyalty point and the expiry of that loyalty point, or determining the length of the period for which a member is in a particular tier.

The system uses date calculation procedures when processing rules in the loyalty engine, to calculate an action date that is a defined period after an input date. For the input date, you can use the date of the member activity, or the current date. The action date is typically an end date or expiration date of a tier or loyalty point, and is used during the earn points or tier transition action.

In addition to the length of the period that you define, you can also define whether the system does the following:

  • Applies rounding, up or down, to the defined period, to round to the nearest week, month, quarter, or year

You assign your date calculation rules to your profiles for tiers and points in the Customizing activity Define Profiles for Loyalty Program Types. Note that in the point expiration profiles, you can also define whether the system overrides the date calculation rules for a particular tier.

The conditions of your loyalty program specify that loyalty points are valid for 36 months, and then until the end of the calendar year. At the end of this period, you also include a "hidden" 15 day period before the loyalty points lose their validity.

You create a date calculation procedure to calculate an action date that is 36 months after an input date, is rounded up to the end of the calendar year, and includes a 15 day grace period. You assign this to a point type, and create a corresponding rule.
