In this Customizing activity, you assign the country/region, region (if required), communication channel and opt-in identifier to define the opt-in characteristics of national laws. You make settings in this Customizing activity when you have customers who are subject to opt-in type laws.

To determine the applicable jurisdiction for the account, the system uses the country/region, and, if required, the region in the main address data.

To determine the applicable jurisdiction for contacts with a relationship to an account, the system uses the country/region and, if required, the region in the main address data of the account.

If in your business scenario, you do not use the main address data to determine opt-in settings, see the BAdI: Opt-In Evaluation for Accounts and Contacts.

With this Customizing activity, the system determines if you can send unsolicited marketing messages to customers. To check this, the system evaluates the following:

  • To which country/region is the opt-in identifier assigned?
  • To which regions is the opt-in identifier assigned (if assignment on regional level is required)?
  • To which communication channels is the opt-in identifier assigned?
  • You have an overview of the countries/regions, and if required, regions, entered for your customers.
  • You know which countries/regions are subject to opt-in type laws.

The assignment of an opt-in identifier determines the validity of a marketing permission for the country/region, region (if required), and communication channels.

An opt-in identifier with a validity period of, for example, 6 months evaluates all marketing permissions to check that the Consenthas the status Givenand that the marketing permission is still in the validity period. The validity period is based on the Date of Consent entered in the marketing permission. When the validity period has expired, the permission is invalid and displayed in All Permissions. When the validity period is still valid, the marketing permission is displayed in Current Permissions.

Country/Region B has an opt-in law with a validity period of 36 months. In country/region B, there are no jurisdictions on regional level. This opt-in law applies to all communication channels.

Prerequisites

You have created an opt-in identifier that represents a validity period of 36 months, OI36

You have created all the required communication channels.

Customizing Entries

Country/Region : B

Region: Leave blank
Communication Channel: Leave Blank

Opt-In ID: OI36

System Behavior

The system evaluates all marketing permission items for accounts and contacts with Country/Region B in the address data and determines that customers can be sent unsolicited marketing messages when the following conditions are met:

  • Consenthas the status Given for all or some of the communication channels. Only those communication channels that have Consentwith the status Givencan be used.
  • The validity period has not expired. The marketing permission is visible in the list of Current Permissions.

The system determines that customers cannot be sent unsolicited marketing messages if any of the following conditions apply:

  • Consenthas the status Rejected for all or some of the communication channels. Those communication channels that have Consentwith the status Rejectedcannot be used.
  • There is no information available for Consent.
  • The validity period has expired. The marketing permission is visible in the list of All Permissions, and is invalid.
