In this Customizing activity, you define settings for parallel processing for External Application Interface (EAI).

You use the settings to determine the number of trade promotions to be created in parallel in the same bucket. During parallel processing, the system combines the data in buckets. For each bucket, an asynchronous thread is started. The bucket data is processed in this thread.

This type of processing increases the efficiency of mass processing jobs. In order to optimize this efficiency, the bucket size has to be customized based on the available hardware capacity.

You can set the bucket size with different parameters, such as:

  • the average number of products in a trade (products or product categories or product groups)
  • the average number of trade spends in a trade, the average number of weeks in a trade
  • the number of marketing projects in a bucket

The bucket size to be processed is calculated as follows:

(number of products x number of trade spend x number of weeks) x number of marketing projects in a bucket.

The server group determines the group of application servers to be provided for parallel processing. This can be dedicated hardware for parallel processing. The server group defined in this Customizing is specific for the mass creation of trade promotions via EAI.

Note: The most suitable number of threads and the bucket size are project-specific, and depend on the available system resources. It is recommended that you perform a stress test to determine the settings that would be best suited to your installation. If the current Customizing is not set, the mass creation of trade promotion will be run in serial local execution (that is, without any parallel processing optimized execution).

Enter values for the following parameters:

  • AVERAGE PRODUCT PER TRADE: the average number of products in a trade.
  • AVERAGE DURATION PER TRADE: the average duration in weeks in a trade range date.
  • AVERAGE TRADE SPENDS PER TRADE: the average number of trade spends in a trade.
  • MARKETING PROJECT PER BUCKET: The maximum number of projects in a bucket.
  • LOGON/SERVER GROUP: Indicates the server group capacity to be used for parallel processing.

You have 100 trade promotions to be created at the same time. You enter 5 as the number of trade promotions to be processed into a same bucket. Each trade promotion of this bucket has average size of 6 (that is, 6 = 3 products x 2 weeks x 1 trade spend). Therefore, the average size of a bucket is 30.

The mass creation of 100 trade promotions is processed in parallel in approximately 4 buckets. Each bucket will be filled with upcoming trades from the list, until the defined average bucket size is reached. The buckets are then processed in parallel on a specific server.
