SAP E-Book

In this activity, you define the operations to be used when processing target groups during segmentation.

The following types of operations are possible:

  • Splitting target groups, for example, using the operation "split into two groups by random entry"
  • Reducing target groups in size, for example, using the operation "remove every tenth business partner"
  • Follow-up operations:
  • Exporting target groups to a file

  • Exporting target groups to a channel (e-mail, fax, SMS)

  • Creating business transactions (for example, business activities, tasks, leads)

  • Customer-specific operations, for example, replacing certain target group members by others

Example

You want to split a target group containing 15 business partners into three target groups TG 1, TG 2, and TG 3. According to the method chosen, the business partners are assigned to the target groups as follows:

  • First Entries
The first five business partners in the list are assigned to TG 1, the next five to TG 2, the final five to TG 3
  • Last Entries
The first five business partner in the list are assigned to TG 3, the next five to TG 2, the final five to TG 1
  • Even Distribution
Each BP (business partner) is assigned to a target group in sequence, for example BP 1 to TG 3, BP 2 to TG 2, BP 3 to TG 1, BP4 to TG 3, BP 5 to TG 2, BP 6 to TG 1, and so on.
  • Random Distribution
Each business partner is assigned to a target group at random.

Ensure that when entering the split ratios, the values add up to the number of business partners in the target group (assuming an absolute value) or up to 100 (if using a percentage-based rule).

The usage category determines which rules can be used for which target groups. For example, rules of usage category Campaign Execution can only be applied to target groups of this same category.

For target groups, SAP supplies rule numbers 01 -> 08, with the corresponding function modules CRM_MKTTG_RUL001 -> CRM_MKTTG_RUL008.

The namespace AAAA -> ZZZZ is reserved for your own operations (using your own function modules as necessary). As of SAP CRM 5.0, a new interface for the required function modules is used. If you also use relationships in your segmentation transactions, you must implement this interface for your own operations or function modules. Upgrade customers must adapt their existing function modules for the new interface.

To implement a customer-specific operation for processing target groups, you need to create a new entry for the customer-specific operation:

  1. In the Operation field, select Customer Defined Operation.
  2. In the ID field, enter a unique identifier with up to 10 characters.
  3. If you want the customer-specific operation to appear in the context menu on the user interface when modeling target groups, select the Active checkbox.
  4. Enter a description for the customer-specific operation.
  5. In the %/Absolute field, select Customer-Specific (No Percentage/Absolute Value).
  6. In the Type of Operation field, select Customer-Specific.
  7. Select the relevant checkbox for each segmentation object for which you want this operation to be available on the user interface (business partner, business partner with related object, product, marketing prospect).
  8. Save your entries.

Next you need to create a BAdI implementation for the new customer-specific operation, see BAdI: Define Customer-Specific Operations on Target Groups.
