SAP E-Book

In this Customizing activity you define the RFC destination and settings required for working with the TREX Index or SAP HANA database.

SAP NetWeaver Search and Classification (TREX or SAP HANA database) is used to speed up profile modeling during segmentation. If you upload your business partner data along with the corresponding attributes to TREX or SAP HANA database regularly, this makes data retrieval during high-volume segmentation much quicker and more efficient.

  1. Specify Object ID/Name
Specify the object name to determine the unique name of the index. The SAP system name and system client number are determined internally.
Example
SAP System Name ABC
SAP System Client Number 000
Object ID/Name BPARTNER

Using the parameters above, the internal index name of TREX or the SAP HANA database would be configured as:
SEG_ABC_000_BPARTNER
  1. Choose whether you want to use a TREX server (see alternative 1) or an SAP HANA database (see alternative 2) for high-volume segmentation in SAP CRM:
  • Alternative 1a: Assign RFC destination to TREX

To use SAP NetWeaver Search and Classification (TREX) during segmentation, you have to assign an RFC destination. The destination name represents a TCP/IP connection to an external server (the connection is maintained by your system administrator using transaction SM59). The destination should point to a server, where TREX is installed. The connection is used for creating, compiling, and retrieving data from TREX indexes/tables.
To test if the connection is live, go to transaction SM59, double-click this RFC destination, and choose Connection Test. This simply checks if the service is available or not.
  • Alternative 2: Assign secondary DB connection to SAP HANA database

As described in SAP Note 1517236, create a secondary database connection to the SAP HANA database. Use report TREX_BC_CONNECTION_TEST to check whether your connection is live. You can then enter the connection in place of the RFC destination in the form :db:.
Note: You should also enter the secondary database connection to the SAP HANA database when you are using SAP HANA as a primary database.
For more information, see SAP Note 1789386.

To ensure that the attributes and business partners are up-to-date in TREX or the SAP HANA database, you should regularly schedule a job to update the value distribution using report CRM_MKTTG_TREX_UPDATE.
