In this activity, you define the possible reading types, which indicate the purpose of a reading.

You can use the Business Add-In Validation Check for Readings to restrict the reading types that can be created from a particular reading origin.

The standard system contains the following reading types:

• Installation

This is the first reading recorded for a newly installed device.

• Dismantling

This is the reading taken before a device is disassembled. Once a dismantling reading is entered, no other readings can be entered for the corresponding item.

• Usage Reading

This is a reading to record usage, usually at regular intervals.

• Change Reading

You can only enter a change reading for a new contract or a new contract item (you can create a new contract item by using a contract change process, for example, a contract extension).

Note: You cannot enter a change reading if you change a product. Enter a dismantling reading for the previous item and an installation reading for the new item.
