In this Customizing activity you assign element types and the business object types that are assigned to the element types in the registry to your processes. This enables users to search for all cases to which an object with a specific type is assigned.

Element types and their corresponding business object types are predefined in the standard system for the standard process C_01. You only need to make new settings or change existing ones in the following cases:

  • If you want to allow additional types of objects to be assigned to a case.
In this case you need to:
  1. Create new element types and assign the corresponding business object type to the element types in the activity Set Up Registry.
  2. Assign the new element types to a process in the current activity, specifying the relationship type, business object type from the registry, and function module (see the Activities section below for more information).
  3. Assign the new element type to a new case record model in the activity Create/Change Case Record Model.
  • If you want to change the business object type that is assigned to an element type in the registry.
In this case, you must also assign the new business object type to the corresponding element type in this activity.
  • If you want to change the business object relation that is assigned to an element type. This is used for searching cases using the business object. In this case, you change the BO Search Relation value, which determines the business object that is used when searching for cases. This value is a unique identifier for the search criteria.
  • If you want to use a customer-defined function module to control the fields displayed for an object (see the Activities section below for more information).
  • If you define your own process (this is not recommended).

  1. For each process that you use, enter element types and their corresponding business object types.
In each case, you must assign the business object type that is assigned to the element type in the registry.
  1. Select a relationship type to specify the type of case-related object.
You can specify various element types (business object types) for each relationship type, enabling you, for example, to assign business partners with different business object types from multiple integrated systems.
Note: For Case Management you can only assign relationship types beginning with C.
  1. Specify a function module.
You can either use the predefined function module CRM_CMG_CONVERT_BOR_OBJECTor create your own.
Note: To create a new function module, copy the predefined function module and modify the code to meet your requirements. Do not create your own function module without copying the function module programmed by SAP.
