In this activity you determine the case numbers that the system assigns to new cases. By assigning a number range interval to a case type in the next activity, you determine from which number range the number should be automatically assigned.

The case number is used to identify a case in internal and external communication.

Note:
Number assignment by users (external number assignment) is not supported for Case Management.

To define a number range, you must first specify a new number range interval:

  1. Choose Change Intervals, then Insert Interval.
The Insert Intervaldialog box appears.
  1. Enter an alphanumeric key (maximum 2 characters).
  2. Enter the lower and upper values of the number range interval.
Intervals must not overlap with each other.
  1. Choose Insert.
  2. Save your entries.

The last number currently assigned from the number range interval in question is displayed in the Current number field.

You can transport number range objects from the Display Number Range Intervals screen, by choosing Interval -> Transport.

Delete all intervals for the number range object in question in the destination system. This will ensure that only the intervals you import exist in the destination system after the transport. The number range values that are imported are the number range values that apply at the time of the export. Dependent tables are not transported or converted.
