You have three BAdIs available when performing case archiving. You can define checks before archiving a case so that only cases that meet specific criteria are archived and removed from the database. You can also archive (write) cases to the database as well as delete cases from the database once they have been archived.

Central to the data archiving process is the archiving object. In Case Management the object is called SCMG. The SCMG data archiving process is divided into four phases: CHECK, WRITE, READ and DELETE.

CHECK: This program preselects cases based on the evaluation of the Customizing settings, the residence time, or the date of the last archivability check. A business transaction in Service is considered archivable once it has fulfilled the residence time applicable to its transaction type.

An SCMG object must also meet the following conditions to be archivable:

  • The business transactions related to the case are in the status Closed or Completed
  • All the subordinate cases of the case are already archived

WRITE: All data with the status Archivable is written to archive files. The status of the data objects in the database is not changed. This phase corresponds to the write phase in standard data archiving and can be scheduled in Archive Administration (transaction SARA).

READ: After the data has been written to the archive files, the program reads the archived data in the archive files. (No BAdI is available for this action.)

DELETE: The archive files are read and then the corresponding data is deleted from the database. If a case has a note with Property Unification attributes, the attributes are also to be deleted.
