In this activity, you define the following:

  • Installed base categories
Each category represents a business task. The table with the installed base categories is the central control table for installed base management.
  • Permitted components that can be assigned to installed bases for each installed base category
  • Installation rules for each installed base category
These define which components can be assigned hierarchically to one another.

The following installed base categories are defined in the standard system:

  • C1 is reserved for the installed base.
  • C3 is reserved for the object structure.
  • CM is reserved for case management.
  • EQ is reserved for equipment downloaded from SAP ERP.
  • FL is reserved for functional locations downloaded from SAP ERP.
  • IT is reserved for telephone numbers in the telecommunications industry.
  • IU is reserved for technical objects for IS-U.

Do not make any changes to table entries for specific industries in the standard system.

To structure the installed bases and objects of your customers, you can use installed base category 01, or if necessary copy it.

For each selected installed base category, define in the view Installation Rules which components can be assigned hierarchically to one another. To do that, you use the following classes:

  • CL_IBASE_CRM_PRODUCT Product
  • CL_IBASE_BASIC_COMPONENT Text Component
  • CL_IBASE_IST_TELNR Telephone Number
  • CL_IBASE_IBASE IBase as Component
  • CL_IBASE_CRM_OBJECT CRM Individual Object
  • CL_IBASE_CRM_GAP CRM Structure Gap

If you do not enter any restrictions, it means that all assignments are permitted.

The example below illustrates the options you have:

Example of Installation Rules

IBase Category Higher-Level Class Lower-Level Class Inst Allwd Meaning
C1 CL_IBASE_CRM_OBJECT   No components can be assigned at a lower level to a component of type Individual Object.
C1 CL_IBASE_CRM_OBJECT CL_IBASE_CRM_OBJECT X One component of the same type can be assigned at a lower level to a component of type Individual Object.

The two table entries are to be viewed in conjunction with one another. The first entry defines that no components can be assigned at a lower level to a component of type Individual Object, except for another component of the same type because this is explicitly allowed in the second entry.
