SAP E-Book

In the Intellectual Property Managementcomponent of SAP CRM, you specify a product's product type attribute with the value IP, when the product is involved in:

  • The acquisition and sale of intellectual property (IP) usage rights
  • The management of IP rights that you currently own (referred to as rights owned)
  • The settlement of incoming and outgoing royalties associated with the use of an IP

To ensure you can specify a product's product type attribute with the value IP, carry out the following activities:

  1. Check to see if the IP product type is activated (or more specifically, is not deactivated)
The Deactivate Product Types Customizing activity allows you to deactivate the use of a product type. When a product type is deactivated, you cannot assign specific products to them.
    1. In SAP Customizing, choose Cross Application Components -→ SAP Product -→ Settings for Product Type.
    2. In the activity screen, move to the IProw and ensure that the Inactiveflag is cleared.
    3. If required, click Saveto save your changes
  2. Ensure that the IP product type has been assigned a category hierarchy for the Productapplication
The Assign Category Hierarchies to Applications Customizing activity allows you to assign a category hierarchy to various applications.
    1. In SAP Customizing, choose Cross Application Components -→ SAP Product -→ Product Category.
    2. In the activity screen, double click on the Assignment per Product Type for Application 'Product'dialog structure entry.
    3. In the main activity pane, move to the IProw and ensure that a category hierarchy has been assigned (Hierarchy ID column). Enter or change the hierarchy category as required.
Note
If no appropriate category hierarchy entry is available, you will need to create a new one by way of the CRM Webclient UI (Only users assigned to business roles with the appropriate authorizations will be able to complete this task)
- Log into CRM WebClient and move to the Operationswork center page.
- Under the Createpane, choose Product Hierarchy.
- The New Hierarchy screen appears. Specify a hierarchy ID and description for the new hierarchy and press Enter.
- Create a new category within the new hierarchy. We advise that you create a root category first. This is a top-level category that you can use to structure additional sub-categories.
- In the Categoriesassignment block, click New.
- Enter an ID (Hierarchy Structure column) and a description (Categorycolumn) for your category.
- In the Product Type column, select IP.
- Save your entry when you are finished.
- Go back and execute the Assign Category Hierarchies to Applications Customizing activity and assign the new hierarchy to the IP(Intellectual Property) product type (see steps ato c).
  1. If required, add additional sub-categories to the root category of the hierarchy
    1. Log into CRM WebClient and move to the Operationswork center page.
    2. Under the Search pane, choose Product Hierarchies.
    3. The Search: Product Hierarchies screen appears. Use the search tools to find the category hierarchy to which you are adding additional categories.
    4. Once you load the desired category hierarchy, select the root category in the Categoriesassignment block.
    5. In the Categoriesassignment block, click New.
    6. Enter an ID (Hierarchy Structure column) and a description (Categorycolumn) for your category.
    7. In the assignment block Category Data select the Assignment allowedflag.
    8. In the assignment block Assigned Set Typesenter the set types to assign to this new category.
    9. In the assignment block Assigned Relationship Types specify the permitted relationship types for this new category.
    10. Add additional categories as required, by repeating steps e through i.
    11. Save your data when you are finished.
Note
You should create one category for each notable IP characteristic

Category definition is client-dependent and therefore you must define a category in the clients in which IPs are used. Alternatively, you can use the Customizing activity Transport Categories
(Cross-Application Components → SAP-Product → Product Category) to transport the hierarchy to a different client.
