In this activity, you can define templates for your documents, which will then be available to you later in Content Management. These templates are defined per business object and can be created for all document types supported by Content Management. The standard Content Management functions are available for editing the templates.

For templates in MS Word, you also have the option of integrating variables into your texts, which can then be filled with the appropriate values when the template is being used in Content Management. For example, you can define the template for a letter. If, during business partner processing, you then create a document using this template, the business partner attributes (e.g. the business partner's address) are automatically included via the variables. To insert the variables in the MS Word document, you use the Standard letterfunction. For additional information on this function, see the documentation in MS Word.

Note

It is currently only possible to use variables for the Business partnerbusiness object type.

  1. Choose a business object type.
  2. Go change mode and choose Create document.
  3. Select a transport request or create a new one. All subsequently created documents are automatically saved in this request.
  4. Enter a name and a description for your document and select the required document type from MIME-category.
  5. If you want to set the attributes of your business object as variables, choose Insert -> Field → Mail merge in MS Word and then choose MergeField as the field name. In the field below, after MERGEFIELD, you then enter the name of the required attributed from template Customizing.
  6. Next, save your template in MS Word and then save it again in the CRM system after closing the document.
