SAP E-Book

In this activity, you create business key figures for BI InfoObject 0MEASURE, such as number of responses, expected profit, number of opportunities. You then assign these key figures to planning levels in Business Planning and Simulation (BPS). In the planning layout for the planning level, you define how the key figures in Marketing are displayed, in other words, how they are distributed across rows and columns.

Depending on your system and software group (see also Connection of Business Planning and Simulation (BPS)) you are taken to two different places when calling this activity:

  • Usage of SAP CRM with SAP NetWeaver BI only (without SEM system): You define the key figures in the master data maintenance of the BI system. This is the standard procedure.
For more information, see the SAP Library documentation for SAP NetWeaver BI under Master Data Maintenance.
  • Usage of SAP CRM system with SAP NetWeaver BI and SEM system: You define the key figures using the Measure Builder, which is part of SEM.

The following description only relates to the usage of the Measure Builder in SEM:

Create Catalog

Catalogs are elements at the top hierarchy level in your key figure system and enable you to break your key figure system down into sub-areas. For instance you could create separate catalogs for each subsidiary company, each division (turbines, generators etc.), or different balance items (profit key figures, sales type and so on).

You cannot create catalogs in a hierarchy structure. To create a hierarchy of key figures within a catalog, you therefore have to create groups within this catalog.

In addition to your own catalogs, you can also use the SAP key figure catalog. You can copy the standard SAP key figures to your own catalogs or reference them in formulas. You can hide or show the SAP key figure catalog.

Note:

If you want to use SAP NetWeaver BI Content and the planning layouts, you must copy the standard SAP key figures to your catalog.

Create Group

You use groups to structure key figures within a catalog according to their contents. Unlike catalogs, there are no limits to the number of levels within group hierarchies . Key figures can be created at any level in the hierarchy.

Create Key Figure

You can create key figures either directly within a catalog or within a group in a catalog.

The Measure Builder incorporates the following functions, which can be used to administer the elements of the key figure system:

  • Using drag & drop you can move groups and key figures to any point within the key figure system, including moving elements from one catalog to another. When you move a group, all the subordinate elements in the group are also moved.
  • You can use the context menu to change the order of groups and key figures within a hierarchy level (not, however, to move them between hierarchy levels).
  • You can determine the hierarchical position (within the key figure system) of the key figure that you are currently editing: the system expands the hierarchy tree to the required position and the key figure is highlighted.
You use this function if you have selected a key figure for editing, but then subsequently moved to another position in the tree.
  • Updating BI master data:
The key figures that you manage with the Measure Builder are also saved in the system defined as the standard BI system. This is necessary to enable the key figures in the Measure Builder to be linked with the Benchmarks defined for the key figures. Normally this data is updated automatically in the SAP BI system whenever a key figure is changed in the Measure Builder. However if this is not possible (for instance if the BI system is not accessible due to network problems), you can trigger manual synchronization of the data.
  • Edit benchmark selections:
You can request benchmark data for the key figures that you have defined in the Measure Builder. To specify which characteristics are to be used to restrict the suitable benchmarks and to specify the order in which they are displayed, choose Utilities → Choose Benchmark.

For more information on the definition process, refer to the SAP Library documentation for Key Figure Planning.
