SAP E-Book

In this step, you make the settings for key figure planning. You use the planning workbench in Business Planning and Simulation (BPS) for this. When you start the activity, you are automatically taken to the system in which BPS and the planning workbench reside.

Before you begin planning, you need to define your planning environment with the following planning objects:

  • Planning area
  • Planning level
  • Planning package
  • Planning profile
  • Planning layout

Planning area

The planning area is the highest level of the planning architecture in Business Planning and Simulation (BPS). The planning area is where the system establishes the connection to the InfoCube in the BI system, which serves as a basis for all planning that is carried out in the context of the planning area.

To carry out key figure planning in marketing, select an InfoCube containing the InfoObject key figure (0MEASURE) or the InfoObject marketing spends (0CRM_MKTSPD).

The following planning areas are delivered as standard for campaign planning:

  • 4CRM0001 CRM Marketing Plan Values
  • 4CRM0003 Marketing Coupon Campaigns

Note: If the BPS does not reside in the BI system in your system/software package but rather in an SEM system (see also Connection of Business Planning and Simulation (BPS)), you must ensure that you have access from the BPS to the BI system. To do this, create an RFC destination in the SEM system with the description CRMMKT01 and that links to the BI system and specify this RFC destination when creating a planning area in the BPS. If the BPS is already in the BI system, this step is not necessary.

Planning level

The planning level is the second node in the planning hierarchy. You use the planning level to restrict the data basis provided by the planning area to the business environment in which planning is carried out.

Furthermore, you can carry out characteristic value restrictions at planning level to further restrict the area to which the planning functions apply.

Note: For you to be able to use key figures in the BPS, they must have certain characteristics. Therefore, choose the InfoObject key figure (0MEASURE) and the key figures amount (0AMOUNT) or quantity (0QUANTITY). The key figures amount and quantity are generic key figures that you can later restrict using the InfoObject key figure (0MEASURE).

The following planning levels belong to the two standard planning areas:

  • The following planning levels are available for planning area 4CRM0001 CRM Marketing Plan Values:
  • 4MP10000 Success Key Figures

  • 4MP20000 Budgeting/Cost Planning

  • 4MP30000 Response Planning

  • 4MP40000 Product Planning

  • 4MP50000 Business Partner Planning

  • 4MP60000 Top-Down Planning/Budgeting

  • 4MP70000 Marketing Top-Down Hierarchical Planning

  • 4MP80000 Marketing Top-Down Planning (Top Node)

  • 4MP21000 Derivation of ERP WBS Element

  • 4MP23000 Budget Transfer to ERP Project System

  • The following planning levels are available for the planning area 4CRM0003 Marketing Coupon Campaigns:
  • 4CRM0001 Coupon Campaign

  • 4CRM0002 Coupon Group Campaign

  • 4CRM0003 Coupon Workflow Campaign

Planning package

The planning package is the lowest level of the planning architecture. It transfers those characteristics and key figures selected at planning level and is used to further restrict characteristics whose values have not already been restricted at planning level.

A planning level can contain any number of planning packages. The system automatically creates an ad hoc planning package at each planning level. This ad hoc package can be used in the same way as a planning package that you have defined yourself but has the following special features:

  • The settings that you carry out for an ad hoc package are only valid for the duration of the current planning session. If you end the planning session, the settings for the ad hoc package are reset.
  • The ad hoc package is not blocked and can therefore be changed simultaneously by all users.
  • The ad hoc package cannot be deleted from the planning level.

Planning profile

You define planning profiles to group together a user-related selection of planning objects (planning areas, key figures, functions, and so on). Planning profiles filter the total quantity of planning objects available in the system and filter out those that you are interested in.

You can set up as many planning profiles as you like for your planning area in Customizing.

There are two ways you can use planning profiles:

  • You create a planning group in Customizing and assign one or more planning profiles to this planning group. To do this, in CRM Customizing, choose Marketing --> Marketing Planning and Campaign Management --> Key Figure Planning --> Define Planning Profile Groups. In marketing, you then assign the planning profile group to your marketing project. You can access the planning profiles of the planning profile group under Key Figures. This assignment is specific to the marketing project and is saved with the marketing project.
  • You can manually assign up to ten planning profiles to your marketing project. To do so, choose Extras --> Settings --> Key Figure Planning. With the indicator With Subordinate Projects, you can define that you plan for not just the selected project but for all subordinate projects, including those that are not yet opened in the Marketing Planner. You can call the planning profiles from the Marketing Planner context menu. This assignment is user-specific and is not saved with the marketing project.

These options for using planning profiles in the Marketing Planner are mutually exclusive. As soon as you start working with a planning profile group, you can no longer access the manually assigned planning profiles from the context menu.

The following planning profiles are part of the standard delivery for campaign planning:

  • 4CRMMP01 Marketing Planning
  • 4CRMMP02 Marketing Success Key Figures
  • 4CRMMP03 Marketing Budgeting/Cost Planning
  • 4CRMMP04 Marketing Response Planning
  • 4CRMMP05 Marketing Product Planning
  • 4CRMMP06 Marketing Business Partner Planning
  • 4CRMMP07 Marketing Top-Down Planning/Budgeting
  • 4CRMMP08 Marketing Coupon Campaigns
  • 4CRMMP09 Marketing Coupon Group Campaigns
  • 4CRMMP10 Marketing Coupon Workflow Campaigns
  • 4CRMMP11 Marketing Top-Down Hierarchical Planning
  • 4CRMMP12 Marketing Top-Down Planning (Top Node)

Planning Layout

You use the key figures defined in the planning profiles to plan according to the characteristics fiscal year, period, or marketing project, and using planning layouts, which can be defined individually and display the key figures from the planning profile in rows and columns. In addition to the characteristics and key figures of the data basis, you can also define formulas for locally calculated key figures.

For manual planning, BPS uses the integration of Microsoft Excel with the CRM system. This method connects the Microsoft Excel interface directly with the planning functions of BPS. Plan documents that you create and edit in Microsoft Excel are saved in the CRM system (together with the normal settings for a planning layout).

You can find more documentation on the BPS functionality in SAP Library under Business Planning and Simulation.
