Use this activity to define, change and delete relationships, and to assign line styles and characteristics groups to them.

When you display the graphic representation of the relationships in transactions, such on the Buying Center tab in Opportunities, they are depicted with the line styles assigned here, and the characteristics in the assigned groups are available to describe them. (Displaying the graphic representation is only possible with a Windows graphical user interface (GUI)).

You have defined characteristics groups and assigned characteristics to them in the previous activities.

You can only assign characteristics groups not marked as generally valid. Generally valid groups are vaild for partner functions, but not relationships.

The system includes commonly used settings.

  • The standard settings include the relationship influences, shown with a red line. The characteristics group Relationship: Influence is assigned to this relationship.
  • You create an Opportunity and, in the Buying Center, define a partner team that includes Tom Johnson and David Wilson. You specify that Tom influences David.
  • In the graphical display, the small box representing Tom (containing his full name and partner function) is connected to David with a red line.
  • Still in the Opportunity transaction, you select this relationship, choose the characteristic Strength of influence and rate this characteristic as Strong.
  • Strength of influence and Strong are both standard settings.

  • Any colleague who looks at this Opportunity can see that Tom strongly influences David, and take this information into consideration when planning sales strategy and when communicating with Tom or David.
