SAP E-Book

There are a few special cases where a number of steps are required to set up the product master appropriately before you can start working with products. The situations where this applies are as follows:

  • You are working with a CRM standalone system
  • You want to create financing products
  • You want to create:
  • Materials in SAP CRM but have not downloaded the material types

  • Service products in SAP CRM but have not downloaded the service categories

1. Base Hierarchies

To create products in SAP CRM you require a base hierarchy. Each product must be assigned to a category from this hierarchy.

  1. Create a hierarchy with product categories on the Product Hierarchies page. For more information, see SAP Library
mySAP Customer Relationship Management -> Components and Functions -> Master Data -> Products -> Concepts -> Categories and Hierarchies.
  2. To enable your hierarchy to be used as the base hierarchy, assign the hierarchy to the application Product in the Assign Product Hierarchies to Applications Customizing activity.
If you wish, you can assign a different base hierarchy to each product type within the application Product in the Assign Product Hierarchies to Applications activity. Any product type assignment you make will override the higher-level assignment between the hierarchy and application Product. However, if no product type assignment is made, the hierarchy specified will serve as the base hierarchy for all product types.
Note
If you create base hierarchies manually for the product type Material or Service and assign them in this Customizing activity, do not later connect an ERP system to your system without consulting SAP first. Under no circumstances perform an ERP Customizing download.

2. Set Types

Go to the Product Hierarchies page again. You can now assign the standard set types (set types delivered by SAP) to the categories in the base hierarchy.

3. Number Ranges

See the following as appropriate:

4. Products

You should now be able to create the products you require.

  1. On the Products or Services page, click New and select a base category.
  2. Enter the product data as required.
The set types assigned to the category appear as assignment blocks on the overview page.
Note
Once products have been created, you cannot change your settings in the Assign Product Hierarchies to Applications transaction. You can, however, create additional categories in the base hierarchy or assign new set types.
