In this IMG activity, you enter the schedules for grouping "controlled substances". These schedules (classes) are set by the US Controlled Substance Act (CSA).

Note
This setting is only relevant for the US market.

The CSA regulates the manufacturing and distribution of potentially dangerous and habit-forming substances such as narcotics, hallucinogens, and other chemicals that can be used to manufacture illegal substances. The monitored substances are grouped into five schedules according to how dangerous they are. Schedule one is for the most dangerous substances without any recognizable therapeutic value. Schedules two to five contain substances with descending potential for abuse: Schedule two contains morphium, for example, schedule five a cough mixture with small amounts of a narcotic or stimulating substance. There are additional sub-classifications for each schedule.

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) follows the CSA's guidelines. The DEA, in cooperation with other governmental authorities, decides whether substances have to be classified, whether their classification should be changed, or whether they should be crossed off the list of monitored substances.

The schedules entered in the table are available in the pharmaceuticals-specific CRM master data. This means that the products to be distributed as part of Sample Management can be classified according to the DEA regulations.

Find out the currently valid classification list for grouping the monitored substances. You can find the schedules on the DEA's Internet pages (http://www.dea.gov).

In the table, enter the substance schedules you must assign to the products. This assignment is necessary if the medical samples to be distributed come under the "monitored substances" category. You can also add a description for each schedule.
