In this IMG activity, you define the number ranges (if they do not already exist) from which the system assigns a number to a problem or solution when a user creates a problem or solution in the Solution Database (SDB). The number can be assigned only by the system, not by the user, that is, only internal number assignment is possible, not external number assignment. The number ranges are independent of the problem type or solution type, and problem subtype or solution subtype.

Number range elements 01 and 02 are contained in table T0KBN in the transaction Maintain Table Views.

If the number range groups do not already exist, use the following procedure to create number range group 01 for problems and subsequently number range group 02 for solutions:

  1. Choose Group -> Maintain.
  2. On the screen that appears, choose Group -> Insert.
  3. Specify the number range interval as required (for example, 000000000001 to 500000000000 for problems, 500000000001 to 599999999999 for solutions).
  4. Assign the number range element created in the transaction Maintain Table Views to the number range group.
    1. Select the number range group (using the checkbox).
    2. Position the cursor on the number range element to be assigned and choose Select Element.
    3. Choose Assign Element to Group.
