In this IMG activity, you use break rule sets to define break space rules. Break space rules define the intervals between the end of one break and beginning of the next. You must define break types and spacing rules for each shift length and shift time range.

This IMG activity contains two distinct parts. In the first table, you identify the general break rule, for each day part and shift length. In the second table, you identify which break types are applied to the rule and the allowable time intervals between breaks. For example, "Monday, all day, for shifts between 9 hours and 10.25 hours long, there will be two 15 minute breaks and one 60 minute meal."

You have defined general settings.

You have defined break rules.

1. In the work area field, enter a unique identifier for the break rule set to which this break spacing rule applies. Note that, in this instance, "work area" is not synonymous with job or position.

2. You see the Break Rule Overview table. Select an existing break rule to apply the break spacing rule to that break rule definition. To create a new break rule, click on the new entries button and complete the following fields in the Break Rules table.

Field Description
Break Rule Set ID The break rule set to which this break rule applies. This value is automatically populated with the value you selected in step 1.
Break Rule ID A unique identifier for the break rule.
Start Date A beginning date for the break rule. The system considers the break rule valid for the range defined by the start and end dates. Note that date entries may not overlap.
End Date An end date. If no end date is planned for this break rule, enter 12/31/9999 to specify an open-ended validity range.
Shift Day Index A dropdown list showing the days of the week. Select the day to which the break rule applies.
Shift Short Length A numeric value representing the shortest shift length for which this break space rule can be applied. This value must be between zero and 24.00, must be entered in quarter-hour fractional hours, and must be entered in decimal format. For instance, 4 hours 30 minutes would be entered as 4.50. 4 hours 45 minutes would be entered as 4.75. This value represents the total shift duration, including all breaks that will be applied.
Shift Long Length A numeric value representing the longest shift length for which this break space rule can be applied. This value must be between zero and 24.00, must be entered in quarter-hour fractional hours, and must be entered in decimal format. This value represents the total shift duration, including all breaks that will be applied.
Shift Start Range St A time value (entered in HH:MM format) representing the earliest time in the schedule day a shift can begin and have this break space rule applied to it. Note that this value may not be earlier than the daybreaker. This range should not overlap with start times applied to the same day and shift length of other break rules.
Shift Start Range End A time value (entered in HH:MM format) representing the latest time in the schedule day a shift can begin and have this break space rule applied to it. Note that this value may not be later than the daybreaker. This range should not overlap with start times applied to the same day and shift length of other break rules.

3. Ensure that all time periods in a day are accounted for in the Break Rules table.

4. Select the break rule ID that corresponds to the break types you are using, and click on Break Space Rule.

5. Continue to the Break Space Rule table. Entries in this table define the break types and spacing rules between the breaks for each break rule. Define break space rules by completing the following fields.

Field Description
Brk No A unique numeric identifier for the break.
Start Date A beginning date for the break space rule. The system considers the break space rule valid for the range defined by the start and end dates. Note that date entries may not overlap.
End Date An end date. If no end date is planned for this break space rule, enter 12/31/9999 to specify an open-ended validity range.
Space The number of minutes that must follow this break before the system can schedule another break.
Brk Type A list of valid break types.
