SAP E-Book

The current activity provides an overview of which segments are extracted in the standard system.

If you want to include additional segments in the scope of the extraction as part of the enhancement concept, you can make your segments known to the extraction program here and you can make the necessary settings for them.

Keep in mind that you have to use the naming conventions for customer-specific enhancements.

A segment is represented by a DDIC structure. Therefore, you first have to create a suitable DDIC structure for each customer-specific segment before you can use the segment in this IMG activity.

SAP delivers all segment settings that are normally needed.

To enter your own customer-specific segments, proceed as follows:

  1. Enter a name for your segment under Description.
  2. The entry you make in the Master Data Segment column is for structuring the scope of the data.
If your segment falls into the category of master data or Customizing-type data, then make an entry in the Master Data Segment column. If it your segment is for document-type data, do not enter a value.
  1. Contact SAP to clarify which Type you have to enter.
Note
For customer-specific segments, usually you should select the type Data Records. The other types, particularly the type Customizing, are of a technical nature. Use them only after clearing this with SAP.
  1. In the Application column, assign an application to the segment. Assigning an application helps to structure the scope of the extraction.
In certain cases, you can influence the scope of the extraction run by means of parameters by selecting one or more applications.

After you have made these settings for your customer-specific segment, you have to perform a second step, in which you make known database tables underlying the segment. A segment can get data either from one database table or from multiple database tables that are linked by a join condition.
