SAP E-Book

SAP has significantly increased the processing speed of many functions by providing more efficient access methods on all databases supported and listed in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM). By using the in-memory database SAP HANA and SAP-HANA-specific functions, it was possible to achieve a further increase in speed. To call SAP-HANA-specific logic, SAP uses interfaces that also enable other database providers to include database-specific logic and optimizations without modification.

The following database-specific enhancements are collected in the SAP Implementation Guide for Database-Specific Optimizations:

  • Optimization BAdIs
SAP provides optimization BAdIs that are used specifically for optimizing individual database calls.
  • Append Search Helps
SAP uses append search helps to provide more efficient searches that are also easier for the user.
Note
For an overview of all optimizations including the database-independent optimizations, see SAP Notes 1761546 and 1835008.

The main target group for this guide are not SAP customers but instead SAP Service and Support and SAP consultants. The guide provides an overview of the database-specific optimization options as well as the option to deactivate individual database-specific optimizations.

Note
If you want to perform database-specific optimizations yourself, we recommend that you only do so in agreement and in cooperation with SAP.
