In this IMG activity you specify how long a displayed structure in the SAP system is to be buffered to speed up display when it is called again.

Note that the display component of the SAP Knowledge Warehouse (Internet Knowledge Servlet (IKS)) buffers the structures, to reduce calls (via Java Connector) from Web AS JAVA to Web AS ABAP. As long as the structure is available in the IKS cache, the buffer in the ABAP back end is not checked. To delete the IKS cache, see SAP Note 1374027.

In all document spaces of the SAP Knowledge Warehouse, structures are used which link to other info objects. When they are displayed, the structure node titles are created dynamically from the titles of the linked info objects. To guarantee quick display even of complex structures, structures are buffered with their node titles. Buffered structures are refreshed if they are displayed again after the end of the buffering time or if the structure has been changed. If only the titles of linked info objects are changed, but not the structure itself, the node title of a displayed (buffered) structure may be obsolete.

The buffering time is set to 604800 seconds (1 week) by SAP by default. You can change this value.

If the contents of an area are changed frequently, the reduction of the buffering time reduces the problem of obsolete structures in the display, but at a cost in performance because of the more frequent refreshing of structures for display.

If the contents of an area are only displayed and rarely changed (e.g. Application Help), retain, or even increase the default buffering time.
