You can use Engineering Desktop to process document structures using a CAD interface, either directly in the CAD system or from your SAP system.

To work in Engineering Desktop integrated with a CAD system, you must make the following settings:

  • You are using a CAD system that is supported by SAP. An SAP interface that supports Engineering Desktop exists for this CAD system.
  • You have made the following system settings for document management:

To make settings for Engineering Desktop, proceed as follows:

  1. Set Up CAD Systems
If you want to set up a new CAD system for Engineering Desktop, proceed as follows:
  1. In the dialog structure, choose CAD System.
  2. Choose New Entries.
  3. Enter a CAD system along with a description and an abbreviation for the CAD system.
  • Group Maintenance
  • If you want to set up a new group for a CAD system, proceed as follows:
    1. Select the desired CAD system.
    2. In the dialog structure, choose Group Maintenance.
    3. Choose New Entries.
    4. Specify a name for a user group, as well as a user or a role.
  • Determine Applications
  • If you want to create new applications, proceed as follows:
    1. Select the desired group.
    2. In the dialog structure, choose Applications.
    3. Choose New Entries.
    4. Choose one of the proposed actions.
    5. Specify a default value for a workstation application.
  • Determine Parameters
  • If you want to create new parameters, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Parameters.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Enter an attribute name and attribute value.
  • Assign Material Master Record
  • To define the value determination for attributes of a material master record that is to be created, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Create Material.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. From the proposed values, choose an attribute name and a determination type.
    4. Define a determination parameter.
  • Assign Document Type
  • If you want to assign new file extensions for document types, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Document Type.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Define a file extension.
    4. From the proposed values, choose a determination type.
    5. From the proposed values, choose a determination parameter.
  • Create Document
  • To define the value determination for attributes of a document master record that is to be created, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Create Document.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Define a new document type.
    You can create the following data for this new document type:
    - Document data
    - Additional data
    - Short text
    - Long text
    1. To do this, select the new document type and choose the corresponding category from the dialog structure.
    2. Specify the attribute name, determination type, and the determination parameter.
  • Create iPPE Variant Assemblies
  • If you want to be able to create iPPE variant assemblies using Engineering Desktop, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Create iPPE Variant Assembly.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Specify the attribute name, determination type, and the determination parameters.
  • Create Classic BOM
  • If you want to be able to create new bills of material using Engineering Desktop, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Create Classic BOM.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Specify the attribute class, attribute name, determination type, and the determination parameters.
  • Update Document
  • To define the value determination for attributes of a document master record that is to be checked in, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Update Document.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Define a document type.
    You can create the following data for each document type:
    - Document data
    - Additional data
    - Short text
    - Long text
    1. To do this, select the document type and choose the corresponding category in the dialog structure.
    2. Specify the attribute name, determination type, and the determination parameter.
  • Integration
  • To define the parameters that are used for RFC- and Web Service- communication, proceed as follows:
    1. In the dialog structure, choose Integration.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Specify the attribute name and attribute value.
