In this IMG activity, you define user statuses. You use these in the predefined status network for specification management once you have added the user statuses as entries in the IMG activity Specify Statuses.

Background information

All statuses used for an object type form a status network. Status networks are predefined by SAP and can comprise system statuses only or contain additional status profiles. Status profiles are made up of user statuses.

System statuses are implemented in a fixed manner: you cannot make any changes to them.

User statuses are used to supplement the status network flexibly and can be tailored to your requirements: you can change, delete, and create user statuses.

The user statuses assigned to an object type form a closed chain; the status profile. The status profile cannot be interrupted by system statuses.

You can specify a range of permitted next statuses for each user status. Example:

No. Name Smallest no. Largest no.
1 UsrStatus1 2 2
2 UsrStatus2 3 3
3 UsrStatus3 1 3

In this example, you can change the statuses as follows: Status 1 -> Status 2 -> Status 3 -> Status 1, 2, or 3.

SAP supplies the status profile EHS_SUB1 for the specification object type.

Note:

  • So that the user statuses of a status profile can be used in the status network, the status profile must be able to be inserted in the status network at a position prescribed by the programming. In the standard system, this is implemented as the insert point between statuses IP (In process) and FR (For release) for the specification object type.

The status profiles are shipped empty, meaning without user statuses.

If you want to define a new user status for a status profile, execute the following steps:

  1. Call the detail data for the status profile EHS_SUB1.
The Change Status Profile: User Status screen appears.
  1. In the Status column, assign a language-dependent ID (with a maximum of four characters) for the user status and in the Short text column the description.
The system generates an internal key (five characters long) for the status with the prefix E.
  1. Enter a position to specify the user status sequence.
  2. In the Priority column, assign the value 1.
Make sure that you have assigned the value 1 for all statuses in the status profile.
  1. Check the object type assignment of the status profile. Choose Object types to do this.
  2. Call the IMG activity Specify Statuses and in the Stat. field (specification status) use input help to enter the user statuses.

Note:

The remaining columns (for example, status number) are not relevant for status management in specification management.
