In this IMG activity, you define the groups for objects (for example, queries, sets of hits, and output variants) that are managed in groups.

For each group, you can specify whether it is a public or private group. Objects in public groups are displayed to all users. Objects in private groups can only be viewed by the user who created the object.

Each group is identified uniquely by the group key and described in more detail using the group description. The Max. obj. field (maximum number of objects) specifies in public groups the maximum number of objects of a type that can be stored in the group. In private groups, the object number specifies the maximum number of objects of a type that each user can store in the group.

Groups are only classified with a type once they are assigned to a group tree, meaning you do not classify a group until you have specified whether it appears, for example, in the group tree for query management, set of hits management, or output variant management. A group can be contained in a number of group trees but not more than once in one group tree.

A user defines the following groups:

Group Key Group Description Max. Obj. Private
PRIVATE_01 First private group 10 X
PRIVATE_02 Second private group 10 X
PUBLIC_01 First public group 50
PUBLIC_02 Second public group 50

In the IMG activity Specify Group Trees and Assign Groups, the user assigns all four groups to each of the standard group trees for query management, set of hits management, and output variant management. All three group trees then contain four groups each in which the user can store queries, sets of hits, or output variants, depending on the group tree.

Second public group

As the standard setting, the group EMPTY is delivered and assigned to the group tree for output variants. The output variants specified in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools are displayed in this group.

Second public group
  1. Call the IMG activity.
  2. Enter the required data.
  3. You can assign a specification category to a group. This means the groups are available (as nodes in the group tree) for, for example, queries, output variants, and inheritance templates, depending on the specification category.
