In this IMG activity, you specify the component types valid for value assignment types of the category composition. For each component type, you can specify specification categories and validity areas and thus control the usage of the component types:

  • You must assign each component type the specification categories for which you want to use the component type. If you do not assign a specification category to a component type, you cannot use this component type for specifications.
  • If you assign a validity area to a component type (generally an organizational unit, such as a plant), the system checks this validity area against the usage profile in the user profile. The following applies here:
  • If a user has a user profile that contains a usage profile, he or she can use only those component types with validity areas that exactly match the validity area of the usage profile. If no validity area of a component type matches the validity area in the usage profile, the user can use all component types.

  • If a user has no usage profile in his or her user profile, he or she can use all component types.

  • If no validity area is assigned to a component type, all users can use this component type.

Examples for component types are:

  • Active ingredient
  • Solvent
  • Stabilizer
  • Impurity
  1. Check the component types delivered in the standard system, and delete or create component types as required.
  2. Check if the C indicator is set according to your requirements. This indicator specifies that a specification can and must be assigned to a component type.
  3. Assign validity areas to the component types as necessary.
  4. Assign at least one specification category to each component type.
  5. Check the default indicator.

Once you have used a component type in a productive system, you can no longer delete it.

You can assign a standard component type to the components that you assign to a specification of a specific specification type. For more information, see the IMG activity Specify Specification Types.
