One important area of use for the SAP component Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) is creating and managing documents (reports). These documents and the data they contain are often required in many languages. The EH&S reports are generated from the SAP system by extracting data from the system. The required data must therefore be able to be entered and printed out in any language. EH&S Native Language Support (EH&S NLS) makes this possible, regardless of whether you are using an SAP system with Unicode character sets (Unicode system) or not. In this IMG activity you set up EH&S NLS.

Data entry and output in different languages does not create problems in an SAP system without Unicode character sets (non-Unicode system) as long as the languages can be represented by the character set on the code page on the application server. However, in certain cases, the character set of a standard SAP(ISO) code page is not sufficient for all languages required. In the standard SAP system, various techniques exist with which language-dependent data from different code pages can be edited and printed in a non-Unicode system. EH&S NLS uses the standard solutions Blended Code Page and Multi Display / Multi Processing Code Pages (MDMP). You can also use EH&S NLS without these solutions in a Unicode system.

Caution:

You must install EH&S NLS independent of whether you are using a Unicode system or a non-Unicode system. Only then are the conversions EH&S NLS is to make performed correctly.
Up to SAP EH&S Release 2.2B it was possible to enter EH&S data so that it was available in the database in Microsoft code page format. SAP no longer supports this scenario. You can convert this old data to SAP(ISO) code page format using the programs REHSBLS01 and REHSBLS02.
After you have set up EH&S NLS, you must not enter any more data so that it is available in the database in Microsoft code page format. Otherwise this could lead to data inconsistencies or even loss of data.

  1. Determine whether you are using a Unicode system:
  • If you are using a Unicode system, proceed with step 4.

  • If you are not using a Unicode system, proceed with step 2.

  1. Determine all languages and special characters that are required in your company and determine the code page(s) you need to portray these languages and special characters.
  2. Taking into account the code pages you determined, decide whether you require the standard Blended Code Page solution or MDMP in your enterprise and set them up in the system. You cannot combine a Blended Code Page with MDMP. Even if you only require one SAP(ISO) code page, you must set up MDMP with this code page. When you install MDMP, make sure all languages that you require for phrases are installed. Here you do not, however, need to import all language-dependent data completely (see next step). If you want to distribute EH&S data by ALE, when deciding on the standard Blended Code Pages solution or MDMP, you must also take into account the system prerequisites as described in the IMG sections Set Up Distribution of Specification Data and Set Up Distribution of Phrase Data. For information and prerequisites for installation, see SAP Notes 103687 and 73606.
  3. The language-dependent data in the system must be complete for at least one language of each installed code page. However, language-dependent data that is complete in languages that can be displayed using several SAP(ISO) code pages (German, English, for example) only fulfill this prerequisite for the SAP(ISO) code page that was specified as the default code page for these languages. This means that for all SAP(ISO) code pages installed with MDMP that are not the same as this SAP(ISO) code page, the language-dependent data for another language must be complete. The language-dependent data must also be complete in the system for each language in which you want to log on to the system. Complete any missing language-dependent data with the corresponding data in a replacement language (English, for example). You can use report program REHSBLSLC to complete the missing language-dependent EH&S Customizing entries.
  4. In the IMG activity Specify Environment Parameters, enter X as the value for the parameter MULTI_CODEPAGE_SUPPORT. This enables the conversions that were set up additionally in EH&S NLS to be performed.
  5. On all front ends, install the required locales and fonts for the languages in which you want to enter and print out data.

  1. In the IMG activity Specify Language Selection, specify the languages that you want to use for phrases in EH&S. You may only specify languages that can be displayed by the code pages installed.
