In this activity, an option is available to derive an open posting period for automatic correction postings. This handles automatic correction postings for closed periods.

If this option is selected, and if an automatic correction posting is created by an organizational change and the corresponding posting period is closed, this entry is posted automatically in the next open posting period. If this option isn’t selected and the posting period of the organizational change is closed, an error message displays, stating that the automatic correction posting for organizational change can’t be performed.

Automatic correction postings for organizational changes can occur when a reversing entry is posted for an open item or inventory, which was transferred during an organizational change.

An open item was posted with a posting date on December 19.

An organizational change was performed with an effective date on January 1 and transferred this open item from the old profit center to the new profit center. Then, the organizational change was completed.

In February, the original invoice needs to be reversed with a reversal posting date in December, that is before the effective date of the organizational change. The December posting period is opened for this purpose but the posting period for January is closed.

The organizational change considers this reversal and wants to create an automatic correction of the transfer posting for the open item. However, this correction can't be performed because the reorganization period (January) is closed.

When this option is selected, the system can perform the automatic correction in the next open period, which is February in this example.
