If you consider using deferred summarization of inventory postings, you should first check whether it is useful in your particular situation.
To help you with this decision, you can run the Analyze Journal Entry Items for Deferred Summarization of Inventory Postings report (FINS_DEFSUM_ANALYZE). This report provides you with an estimate of the amount of data reduction that you can achieve by using deferred summarization.
Before using deferred summarization, ensure that you've already used the following available options:
If these activities aren't activated for MATNR, it isn't possible to use deferred summarization.
Note:
Deferred summarization is intended only for exceptionally large data volumes, which cause critical performance and data storage issues. Use deferred summarization only when absolutely necessary and when you've already used other available summarization options, since it restricts the flexibility of reporting. If you decide to use this function, consider that its effects normally can't be reversed. Furthermore, the effects can be undesirable if the function is used incorrectly.
To implement deferred summarization of inventory postings, please proceed as follows:
- Activate the deferred summarization function.
- Set the number of jobs for each deferred summarization run in order to keep the workload at a minimum.
- Start the actual deferred summarization run whenever you need it.
- Optional step: To be able to summarize legacy data, you need to prepare the data for summarization in a preparation run first.
