FINS_SIS_DOCSPLIT - Information on Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting

Within the scope of the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting, S/4HANA Customers, with production systems, can implement document splitting. When you sequentially work through the Customizing activities provided in the Implementation Guide, the necessary enrichment of available posting data is supported.

In the Implementation Guide, the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting node has been added under the existing Document Splitting node.

The architecture of the accounting module in S/4HANA is based on the concept of the former New GL. The concept of the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting in S/4HANA differs from the Migration Scenario 6 of the New GL. In S/4HANA, the activation of document splitting is time dependent and you can, therefore, implement it without system downtime.

The Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting includes of two main Phases:

• Preparatory Phase

• Execution Phase

Within these phases, you can activate document splitting and start the data enrichment.

We recommend that you activate document splitting at the beginning of a fiscal year so that you have a clearly defined point in time, where you make changes to your reporting capabilities and the posting logic.

The time-dependency of document splitting means:

• All journal entries, with a posting date that is either identical to or later than the activation date of Document splitting, will be processed in accordance with the document splitting rules.

• All journal entries, with a posting date prior to the activation date of document splitting, will not be split.

The time of data entry is not relevant.

To ensure that document splitting can be activated at a specific time, and that it can be implemented without errors, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

• You have completed the Customizing for document dplitting and no further modifications can be made.

• You have maintained master data for the document splitting characteristics and, if necessary, assigned them to other master data objects.

• You have adjusted posting processes and interfaces with respect to the document splitting rules and the necessary account assignments.

• You have adjusted, open Items and reference documents, that are used as a basis for further processing, with the corresponding document splitting characteristics.

To achieve complete reporting, based on the document splitting characteristics, the balance carryforward must be enriched with relevant account assignment information.

With the help of an implementation project, the prerequisites are ensured and the data enrichment is carried out in the S/4HANA system. You can create this project in the Customizing activity Create Project for the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting.

The overall project concept and planning must be carried out early to ensure that the prerequisites for the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting are fulfilled before document splitting is activated.

You should plan for several test cycles after you have:

• Specified document splitting concepts

• Specified data enrichment concepts

• Completed both the Customizing for Document Splitting and the Customizing for the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting

The tests should consider every posting process in combination with the document splitting settings as well as the execution of the data enrichment in combination with the time-dependent activation of document splitting.

You should activate Document Splitting Validation as early as possible, in the production system, to ensure that your posting behavior is correct in combination with document splitting rules. As a prerequisite, Document Splitting Customizing should be complete and the project to Subsequently Implement Document Splitting should be created. You can make corrections in Customizing only if the document splitting has not been activated in the production system.

If the document splitting tests, the data enrichment tests, and the online validation in the production system are successful, you can start the data enrichment in the production system. However, you can only start the data enrichment if no posting, with active document splitting, has been posted.

The data enrichment handles open items that were posted before the document splitting activation date. The second part of the data conversion is the enrichment of the balance carryforward. This runs after the fiscal year closure has been completed, the posting period for the previous fiscal year is closed, and with that after the document splitting activation date. The conversion of the necessary data is closed with the balance carryforward enrichment in accordance with the document splitting characteristics.

All data enrichment within the scope of the document splitting implementation have no influence on the operative processes of accounting. A system downtime is not necessary for the Subsequent Implementation of Document Splitting.
