You can enter the functional area in the master record of

internal orders as well.

The system provides you with a default value that is determined by the system as follows:

  1. The system checks whether a functional area exists in the order type for the internal order. If one exists, this value is transferred to the master data of the internal order.
  2. If no value is available for the order type, the system checks whether a functional area is available for the responsible cost center entered. If so, this value is taken over by the master data of the internal order, assuming the functional area field is ready for input.

The standard system includes user exit COOPA_01 with which you can check whether the functional area in the master data of the internal order matches the functional area in the order type. You can also define your own checks in this user exit. On how to do this, see How to validate the functional area in a user exit.

To ensure consistency of the functional areas in the master data of internal orders, SAP recommends that you define the Functional area field in the field selection control of the order type as an output field. This will make it impossible to manually enter the functional area in the order type. To do this, in Customizing choose Controlling -> Internal Orders -> Order Master Data -> Screen Layout -> Select Fields.

  1. Enter the desired functional area in the master data of your internal orders.
  2. Save your entries.
