A reason code represent a task to be performed. You define reason codes to describe each task that a firefighter expects to perform. For example, a reason code might be a technical support case number. The reason code must be clear, so that the firefighter understands the task it represents.

The reason code can be used as a search criteria when using the search or filter for the Reason and Activity report or the Log report by Reason Code.

Both the administrators and firefighter user use reason codes:

- The component administrator defines reason codes in a table.

- The firefighter user selects a reason code from a dropdown menu on the dashboard.

To create a reason code, perform the following steps in the Superuser Privilege Managementuser interface:

1. Click the Reason Code tab on the administrator's dashboard tool bar. The reason code table opens.

2. Click New Entries.

3. In the Reason Code column, enter the reason code. This code relates to the description. For example, if the description is a specific technical support issue, the reason code might be the case number for this issue.

4. To describe the reason code, enter text in the Description field. A good description supplements the reason code and avoids potential misunderstanding.

5. Click Save.

To create a reason code, perform the following steps in the Maintain Reason Codes activity :

1. Click New Entries. The New Entries: Overview of Added Entries screen appears.

2. Select the first row in the table. The Reason Codes field is highlighted.

3. Enter the name of the Reason Codes.

4. Click the next field under Description. The field is highlighted.

5. Enter a long text description of the reason code.

6. In the Active field, the default is Active. Click to Inactive if desired.

7. Click the Save icon.
