SAP E-Book

In this Customizing activity, you define the timeframes that are used in the Process Control and Risk Management applications. Timeframes can be considered as specific named time buckets within a year (such as January or Week 24), and must be defined to cover the entire year.

Each timeframe is first assigned to a previously defined frequency, and is then combined with the defined offset settings to create a user-defined timeframe.

Note: The timeframes you define must not overlap.

Offset settings are provided to enable fiscal-year customization, in cases where the fiscal year is not aligned with the calendar year.

Example: You define a fiscal year starting in September. In this case, the Fiscal Quarter 2 starts in December (offset -1) and lasts until February (offset 0).

You must have created frequencies in the Customizing activity Maintain Timeframe Frequencies.

To create timeframes, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose New Entries pushbutton.
  2. In the first column, enter a user-defined name for the timeframe.
  3. In the second column, select a frequency from the dropdown list.
  4. In the Toand Fromcolumns, select the first and last dates of the timeframe.

Note:When you select a timeframe that begins in the Fromcolumn, then it is coupled with the Offset Year From column entry. If you pick a timeframe that ends in the To column, then it is coupled with the Offset Year To column.
  5. Specify the offset data in the next two columns by making the corresponding selections.
  6. Enter a description for the timeframe in the last column.

Note: Your user-defined description for the timeframe is displayed in the application UI, together with the year. This must be taken into consideration while naming the timeframes to ensure, for example, that the year does not display twice in the UI.
  7. Save the entry.

The following example illustrates a quarterly for a company with a fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

Delivered Timeframes:

  • Quarter 1: Months July to September and Year -1 to Year -1
  • Quarter 2: October to December and Year -1 to Year -1
  • Quarter 3: January to March and Year 0 to Year 0
  • Quarter 4: April to June and Year 0 to Year 0

As shown above, you can also define the values for Quarter 1 and Year 2009. Quarter 1 for 2009 covers the period July to September 2009, and Quarter 4 for 2010 covers the period April to June 2010.
