In this Customizing activity, you can use specific settings to improve the performance of your workflow processing. Since many dialog processes are utilized during workflow generation, if the settings are not changed, receivers of events (such as workflows) are started directly. This may lead to a high system load if the number of events is large. To avoid this, events for defined event linkages can be written into the event queue. In addition to this, we recommend that you schedule the workflows overnight.

To maintain the event queue settings:

  1. To review the current settings and determine if you need to change any settings, do the following:
    1. On the Overview tab page, review the current settings for the event queue. Under Key Figures, the system displays how many events can be processed every hour.
    2. Open the other tab pages and change the settings as required.
  2. On the Basic Data tab page, enter a user in the Administratorfield.
  3. Select an option from the Receiver Error Feedbackdropdown list. SAP recommends selecting the Deactivation of Linkage
  4. On the Activation tab page, select the Switch On Event Queuecheckbox, as required.
SAP recommends activating the event queue for the following object types since this is where a large number of workflows are generated:
Object Type Event Receiver Type
GRPC_CASEA CREATED WS75900004
GRPC_CASET CREATED WS75900006
GRPC_CASES CREATED WS75900007
GRPC_CASED CREATED WS75900014

  1. Choose Event Linkagesto determine whether or not to activate the event queue for the BOR object types . We recommend you activate the event queue for object types that have numerous workflows. If you only have a few workflows, processing is quicker if you do not activate the event queue.
  2. On the Background Job tab page, maintain the settings for the Number of Events per Read Access and the Time Interval between two read accessesas required. We recommend you enter 12 read accesses per minute. This means that 12 workflows are sent per minute for each work process (if there are 10 work processes, 120 workflows are sent per minute).
For example, when used in the context of the outbound queue to register the workflow system for the qRFC Monitor, individual workflows for which the event queue is not activated are also sent with the others. Hence, if an additional single workflow must be sent during the mass generation of workflows, the workflow is processed after one minute as opposed to at the end of mass processing.
  3. Choose Display Background Jobto monitor the logs of the executed jobs, as required.
  4. On the Event delivery tab, maintain the settings as required.
SAP recommends retaining the following default settings:
  • Processing of events: Sequential

  • Start of receivers: Asynchronous

  1. Select Server Group Definitionand maintain the settings for the server groups.
Note:For Minimum Number of Free WPs,the smaller the value you specify, the greater the speed with which the events are processed.
  2. Save the entries.
