As a customer, this IMG activity only displays the settings made by SAP. You make customer settings in the IMG activity Customer: Define Message Mapping for Message Type.

In this IMG activity, you determine the replacement of system messages with specific messages, depending on the message type, message ID, and message number. For the message to replace, determine the alternate message type, and if necessary, the alternate message ID and alternate message number. You must always enter the context as the work area. You can also restrict message mapping to a particular processor role.

When you specify the message type, message ID, and message number, the system responds as follows:

  1. The system first reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message ID, message number, and processor role. If a message is found, this is returned, if not, the system proceeds with step 2.
  2. The system reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message type and processor role. The message ID and message number remain blank. If a message is found, this is returned, if not, the system proceeds with step 3.
  3. The system reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message type, message ID, and message number. The processor role remains blank. If a message is found, this is returned, if not, the system proceeds with step 4.
  4. The system reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message type. The message ID, message number, and processor role remain blank. If a message is found, this is returned, if no alternate message is found and the message has an error category, the system reads the further Customizing settings for this message from the IMG activity SAP: Define Message Mapping for Error Category.
  5. If there are no further Customizing settings, the original message is returned.

For a graphical overview of the system response, see SAP Library: HCM Processes and Forms -> Message Mapping.

Determine how to map system messages depending on the message type, message number, and message ID:

  • You must enter the context ID and message type.
  • You do not have to enter the processor role, message ID, or message number.
If you do not make any entries in these fields, message mapping is applied to all processor roles, message IDs, and message numbers.
  • If you enter the message ID, you must also enter the message number, and vice versa.
  • If you set the Hide indicator, you must not enter any data for an alternate message. If, however, you make any entries, they are ignored.
  • If you only specify the message type and alternate message type, and leave all other fields blank, only the message type is replaced. For example, this allows you to display all information as warnings. This only replaces the message type of a message, and not the message ID and message number.
