As a customer, this IMG activity only displays settings made by SAP. You make customer settings in the IMG activity Customer: Define Message Mapping for Error Category.

In this IMG activity you determine the replacement of messages depending on their error category and message type. There are messages classified by a message type and messages classified by an error category. In this IMG activity you can only configure messages with an error category. For example, you can replace all warnings of the error category No Authorization with an alternate message. To do this, you must specify an alternate message type, an alternate message ID, and an alternate message number.

When you specify the error category and message type, the system proceeds as follows:

  1. The system first reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message type, error category, and the processor role. If a message is found, this is returned, if not, the system proceeds with step 2.
  2. The system reads whether there is an alternate message for the entered message type and the error category. The processor role remains blank. If a message is found, this is returned. If no alternate message is found, the original message is returned.

For a graphical overview of the system response, see SAP Library: HCM Processes and Forms -> Message Mapping.

Determine how to map system messages depending on error category and message type:

  • You must enter the context ID.
  • You do not need to enter theprocessor role.
If you do not make any entries in this field, message mapping is applied to all processor roles.
  • You must enter the error category and message type.
  • If you set the Hide indicator, you must not enter any data for an alternate message. If, however, you make entries, they are ignored.
