In this step, you define matrix dimensions.

A dimension is assigned a method, such as appraisal, age, length of service or compa-ratio, which in turn is assigned an algorithm to retrieve the dimension value

A dimension includes various dimension segments. A matrix can contain up to three dimensions, the first dimension being optional.

The dimensions AGE1, AGE2 and AGE3 are assigned the AGE method, each dimension representing an age range.

You must have performed the activity Define Methods for Matrix Dimensions.

The SAP System is shipped with a set of predefined dimensions that you can change to meet your company-specific requirements.

Determine which dimensions your matrices should contain.

  1. Select the relevant compensation area.
  2. Choose New entries.
  3. Enter a 4-character code and a description.
  4. Delimit the record.
  5. Select the relevant dimension method.
  6. Provide a parameter value if applicable by using the F4 help. This value is used by the underlying Business Add-In as an input parameter to determine the dimension value.
  7. Specify a unit if applicable. This can be for example either years for the age calculation or months/years for the length of service.
  8. If needed, specify a period for setting the evaluation key date of the dimension earlier. Note that this field is mainly relevant for appraisals.
  9. Save your entries.
  10. Repeat the previously mentioned steps for any further dimensions.
